Panichishte is a mountain resort, at an altitude of 1350-1450 m above sea level. In winter, several ski slopes and ski lifts operate for tourists. Panichishte is one of the rapidly developing ski resort centers in Bulgaria, similar to the resorts of Borovets and Pamporovo.
The proximity to the Rila National Park and the Rila Lakes makes Panichishte a preferred place for recreation in the summer as well. Several marked tourist trails have been laid in the area and there are good conditions for practicing various types of sports. There are hotels and restaurants everywhere.
Several tourist routes start from Sapareva Banya to a number of monasteries and churches in nearby villages.
The Seven Rila Lakes is the longest and most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria. They are located in a stepped pattern between 2100 and 2500 meters above sea level. Their names from highest to lowest are: Salzata, Okoto, Babreka, Bliznaka, Trilistnika, Ribnoto and Dolnoto.
Their waters flow into each other and give rise to the Dzherman River. The crossing is about 8.5 km, which can be covered in approximately 4 hours.
The geyser in Sapareva Banya is one of the hottest in the world with its 103 degrees. It is the only one in continental Europe and is the most violent and accessible geyser in the world - it pulses every 5-6 minutes. The height of its water column is 18 m and it springs from a depth of 75 m.
The many colored lights that are turned on during summer evenings make it a remarkable sight.
